The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, shared a heartfelt message ahead of Hanukkah, emphasizing the festival’s significance and expressing solidarity with the Jewish community in Canada and worldwide.
“As the first night of Hanukkah approaches, Canada’s Common Sense Conservatives join our Jewish friends in celebrating all that it symbolizes: the victory of light over darkness and the triumph of the Jewish people over the forces that have sought to destroy them,” Poilievre stated.
Reflecting on the Hanukkah story, Poilievre highlighted the bravery of the Jewish people in reclaiming the Second Temple, restoring sovereignty to Jerusalem, and witnessing the miraculous endurance of the menorah’s light.
“Today, as a new generation of Maccabees fights to defend Israel against the genocidal death cult that is Hamas, history reassures us that G-d’s faithfulness to His people is unfailing,” he added.
Poilievre expressed confidence in the resilience of the Jewish people and the state of Israel, drawing parallels between the historic triumph of the Maccabees and the ongoing struggles faced by the Jewish community.
“Just as the Maccabees were able to restore Jerusalem, so too will the people of Israel rebuild. And just as it did millennia ago, the menorah will continue to cast out the shadows of hatred and shine its miraculous light in the windows of Jewish homes and synagogues around the world,” he stated.
