The ongoing Swords of Iron war, initiated by the Hamas terrorist organization in October 2023, has exacted a significant human cost on the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). According to detailed statistics released by the IDF on Thursday, nearly 900 soldiers have lost their lives, with thousands more wounded over the past 15 months.
Since the war began on October 7, 2023, a total of 891 IDF soldiers have died. The breakdown reveals 558 fatalities in 2023 alone, compared to 44 in the preceding year. In 2024, an additional 363 soldiers were killed, underscoring the relentless toll of a conflict that has impacted countless lives.
The war was sparked by a large-scale cross-border invasion launched by Hamas operatives, targeting Israeli civilians and military personnel. This unprecedented attack resulted in widespread casualties, including killings, injuries, and kidnappings of both Israelis and foreign nationals.
In addition to the fatalities, the IDF reported 5,569 soldiers wounded since the conflict’s inception. These injuries stem from combat operations, missile strikes, and other war-related incidents near the borders and within conflict zones. The recent tragedy at the Ramim Cliff area, where a Lebanese missile caused severe injuries, highlights the ongoing dangers faced by soldiers stationed on the frontlines.
The Swords of Iron war continues to pose challenges for Israel’s military and civilian population. The sacrifices of IDF soldiers reflect the high cost of defending national security in the face of escalating threats.
