Swastika Graffiti And Hate Speech Appear In Perth As Australia Grapples With Antisemitic Surge

Jewish community leaders demand urgent action amid rising hate crimes

Authorities in Perth are investigating an antisemitic graffiti attack after a wall in the western city was defaced with a swastika and the words “F**k JEWS,” marking the latest in a string of hate crimes targeting Australia’s Jewish community.

The incident, reported by the Australian Jewish Association (AJA), comes as antisemitic vandalism and harassment continue to escalate nationwide. “It’s clear that the Federal Government has lost control,” the AJA stated on social media.

The attack in Perth follows similar incidents in Sydney, where Jewish residents have been subjected to acts of vandalism and harassment. On Sunday, police said vehicles and homes in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, including Kingsford and Randwick—areas with significant Jewish populations—were defaced with antisemitic graffiti.

Additionally, detectives in Bondi Beach are searching for three men suspected of throwing eggs at a group of Jewish women on Saturday night.

Jewish leaders warn that the surge in hate crimes is reaching alarming levels. The New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies reported over 10 serious antisemitic incidents—including vandalism, arson, and other forms of harassment—within the last three weeks.

“This is not normal. This isn’t the Australia we know and love,” the Board wrote in a statement. “Every Australian must call out this behavior, the terrorists perpetrating and arranging these crimes must be apprehended, and penalties must be strengthened.”

In response to the growing threat, authorities in Sydney have doubled the number of officers in a special task force targeting antisemitic crimes. The unit, originally formed in December, now has 40 officers working to combat the surge in incidents.

Last week, police revealed that explosives found in an RV in Sydney’s outskirts last month could be linked to a broader antisemitic campaign. Officers discovered a list of Jewish targets alongside industrial-grade explosives, raising concerns that these incidents may be part of a coordinated effort.

Authorities continue to investigate whether foreign entities are funding these attacks, as reported by The Australian.

Jewish community leaders are urging the government to take stronger measures to protect residents and deter future hate crimes. The wave of antisemitic incidents has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for harsher penalties and increased security measures to ensure the safety of Jewish Australians.
