A leading pro-Israel organization is calling on former U.S. President Donald Trump to anchor his Gaza reconstruction plan in a comprehensive “de-Nazification” strategy, similar to the approach the U.S. used in postwar Germany to eradicate Nazi ideology.
Americans For A Safe Israel (AFSI) argues that without a fundamental transformation of Gaza’s education system, governance, and societal structures, any attempt to rebuild the territory will fail to bring lasting peace.
“If the Allies had merely rebuilt Germany after World War II, without completely changing German society, it would have been only a matter of time before the Nazis would rise up and again threaten the Free World,” said AFSI National Chairman Moshe Phillips. “That’s why the U.S. insisted on complete de-Nazification of postwar Germany. That’s exactly what President Trump needs to do in Gaza.”
AFSI has outlined three key steps that it believes are essential for transforming Palestinian society and eliminating the root causes of extremism:
- Reforming Gaza’s Schools – AFSI urges the U.S. to implement a new education system based on principles of peace, tolerance, and coexistence with Israel. The organization says educators complicit in spreading hate should be removed from their positions.
- Outlawing Terrorist Groups – Just as the U.S. banned the Nazi Party in Germany, AFSI calls for Hamas and other terrorist organizations operating in Gaza to be outlawed.
- Banning Terrorist Symbols – AFSI advocates for a ban on Hamas flags, publications, and other terror-related symbols, akin to the prohibition of Nazi imagery in Germany.
According to Phillips, without such sweeping reforms, Gaza will continue to foster extremism and produce future generations raised on violence.
“President Trump must ensure that Gaza undergoes a complete societal transformation,” he said. “Anything less will guarantee that Palestinian Arabs continue to raise generation after generation to wage war against Israel and the Jewish people.”
It remains to be seen whether Trump, who has yet to formally outline his Gaza reconstruction plan, will incorporate such measures. However, AFSI’s proposal reflects growing calls from pro-Israel advocates for a long-term solution that addresses the ideological foundations of conflict in the region.
