In response to the growing marginalization of LGBTQ+ Jews who support Israel, Tafsik has unveiled its latest initiative under the HUGS Community Outreach program: LGBTJew. This pioneering community is dedicated to individuals who have faced exclusion from LGBTQ+ circles because of their Zionist beliefs.
Many Zionist Jews have reported feeling abandoned by the LGBTQ+ community when their support for Israel’s right to exist was met with hostility. This isolation often stems from pressure to denounce Israel, leading to a profound sense of loneliness. Recognizing this, LGBTJew seeks to create a welcoming network where LGBTQ+ Jews can connect with like-minded individuals who share both their sexual identity and their passion for Israel.
The initiative is set to launch in Toronto, with plans to expand across Canada and eventually reach Jewish Zionist LGBTQ+ individuals worldwide who feel isolated due to their beliefs. Emphasizing that LGBTJew is more than just social events, Tafsik envisions it as a movement—a supportive space where members can forge new friendships, explore opportunities, and celebrate their identities without fear of judgment.
Tafsik encourages those interested to share information about LGBTJew within their networks, aiming to build a robust, open-minded community from the ground up. The overarching message is clear: “You belong here.” For LGBTQ+ Jews who have felt excluded, LGBTJew offers a platform for solidarity, support, and a reaffirmation of their multifaceted identities.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts by organizations like PFLAG and The Trevor Project, which strive to create inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ individuals. However, LGBTJew uniquely addresses the intersection of LGBTQ+ identity and Zionist beliefs, filling a crucial gap in support networks.
By fostering a community where members can openly express both their sexual orientation and their support for Israel, LGBTJew stands as a testament to Tafsik’s commitment to inclusivity and understanding.
