In a decisive victory, Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative (PC) Party has secured a third consecutive majority government in Ontario’s snap election held on February 27, 2025. The PCs’ campaign focused on opposing proposed U.S. tariffs, resonating with voters and leading to their continued governance.
Liberal Party leader and former Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie faced a significant setback, losing her seat in her home riding of Mississauga. Despite this defeat, Crombie has pledged to remain at the helm of the Liberal Party, emphasizing her commitment to addressing pressing provincial issues.
Crombie’s tenure as mayor included a controversial moment in 2022 when she awarded a certificate of recognition to Lama TV, a program with a history of antisemitic content. The show and its founder, Lama Aggad, had made numerous antisemitic remarks, leading to criticism from organizations such as B’nai Brith Canada.

In her concession speech, Crombie acknowledged the election results and reaffirmed her dedication to combating antisemitism and promoting inclusivity across Ontario. She stated, “We have seen a disturbing increase in antisemitism across Ontario. This must end now.”
Premier Ford, in his victory address, called for unity and collaboration to tackle the challenges posed by external economic pressures, particularly the proposed tariffs from the United States. He emphasized the importance of working together to protect Ontario’s interests and ensure prosperity for all residents.
As the province moves forward, the political landscape will require cooperation among parties to address both domestic concerns and international economic threats. The election results underscore the electorate’s desire for strong leadership in uncertain times.
