Pentagon Official Under Fire For Promoting Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories

Deputy Press Secretary's past social media posts spark bipartisan condemnation and raise concerns over vetting processes.

Kingsley Wilson, recently appointed as the Pentagon’s Deputy Press Secretary, is facing widespread criticism following the revelation of past social media posts promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories, including disputing the innocence of Leo Frank, a Jewish lynching victim from the early 20th century.

In August 2024, Wilson responded to a post by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) commemorating Leo Frank by asserting, “Leo Frank raped and murdered a 13-year-old girl,” a claim that aligns with narratives propagated by white supremacist groups. The ADL has refuted such assertions, emphasizing that Frank was wrongfully convicted amidst rampant antisemitism and posthumously pardoned in 1986.

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) condemned Wilson’s remarks, stating, “Anyone who posts antisemitic conspiracy theories lifted right out of the neo-Nazi playbook should not be in public office.”

Further scrutiny of Wilson’s social media activity reveals endorsements of the “Great Replacement” theory, a far-right conspiracy alleging deliberate demographic changes orchestrated by elites, often with antisemitic undertones. In August 2024, she tweeted, “The Great Replacement isn’t a right-wing conspiracy theory … it’s reality.”

Wilson’s controversial posts have drawn bipartisan criticism. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) expressed concerns about her suitability for the role, and Representative Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) highlighted the need for thorough vetting of government appointees. The Pentagon has not issued an official statement regarding the matter, deferring to Wilson for personal remarks.

This incident has intensified discussions about the vetting processes for political appointees, especially within the Department of Defense. Observers note that such oversight is crucial to prevent individuals with extremist views from holding influential positions in government.
