In a disturbing act of vandalism, campaign posters of Ro Knox, a candidate in the upcoming local elections, have been defaced with Nazi symbols and a Hitler-style moustache in Rose Bay. The defacement was discovered earlier this week, prompting widespread condemnation from community members and local officials.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of similar acts targeting political figures. In 2019, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg’s campaign posters were vandalized with Hitler references in Melbourne’s Kooyong electorate. Frydenberg, who is Jewish, condemned the acts as cowardly and unacceptable.
Similarly, in Sydney’s north, Jewish MP Julian Leeser’s posters were defaced with swastikas and Hitler moustaches during the same election period. Leeser expressed deep distress over the incident, highlighting its antisemitic nature and the personal impact, given his family’s history.
The defacement of Knox’s posters has been reported to local authorities, who have launched an investigation into the matter. Community leaders have called for unity and resilience in the face of such hateful acts, emphasizing the importance of standing together against intolerance.
