At the 38th TEFAF Art Fair—widely recognized as the world’s leading event for fine arts, antiques, and design—the Steinitz Gallery is set to captivate audiences with an unparalleled display that spans 7,000 years of history. Renowned for its uncompromising standards of quality, the gallery will feature a major selection of furniture, objects, and sculptures from the 17th to the early 20th century, including five remarkable pieces once owned by the legendary Rothschild family.

Among the extraordinary highlights is an octagonal Venetian mirror in rock crystal and gilded copper. This rare piece, dating from the second third of the 17th century, was originally part of the collection of Baron Alphonse de Rothschild. With imposing dimensions (142 cm in height and 140 cm in width), the mirror was once displayed in the “red salon” of a Paris hotel, passed down through generations—from Alphonse to Baron Édouard de Rothschild, and later to Baron Guy de Rothschild and his wife Marie-Hélène at the Hôtel Lambert.

Also on display is a “Turkish” double-bedside daybed attributed to Nicolas-Quinibert Foliot, a master craftsman of 18th-century Paris. The piece exemplifies classicizing symmetrized rockery with lavish carving, gilding, and an opulent motif of palm branches and cartouches—a style that reflects the refined tastes of the Rothschilds and other European collectors of the era.

The gallery’s presentation also includes additional masterpieces from prestigious collections, such as a flat desk from the Saint and Rothschild collections and exquisite examples of Chinese porcelain potpourri from the Kangxi period. These pieces collectively celebrate the remarkable cultural heritage fostered by the Rothschild dynasty, whose patronage and collecting legacy continue to symbolize prestige and major provenance in European art.

Jessica Mann Gutteridge, Artistic Managing Director of the Steinitz Gallery, stated, “Our longstanding admiration for the ‘Rothschild taste’ has driven our continuous quest for the beautiful and exceptional. This exhibition at TEFAF not only highlights our commitment to high-quality, historically significant art but also offers a rare glimpse into the legacy of one of the most influential dynasties in European cultural heritage.”

With TEFAF drawing collectors, art enthusiasts, and historians from around the globe, the Steinitz Gallery’s exclusive display promises to be a major attraction. Visitors can find these outstanding pieces at designated locations throughout the fair, where the enduring legacy of the Rothschild family and centuries of artistic excellence come together in one spectacular setting.
