On February 10, 2025, Afeka Academic College of Engineering in Tel Aviv celebrated its largest graduating class to date, with 720 students receiving their degrees at the Menora Mivtachim Arena. This milestone comes at a pivotal time, as Israel seeks to bolster its high-tech and defense sectors in the aftermath of recent conflicts.
The journey of these graduates was marked by significant challenges. Beginning their studies during the COVID-19 pandemic, they adapted to remote learning environments. Their resilience was further tested by the Swords of Iron War, during which 44% of Afeka’s students were called to serve in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reserves. To support these students, Afeka implemented a comprehensive support system that included hybrid learning models, condensed courses, tutoring, scholarships, and mental health counseling.
Afeka President Prof. Ami Moyal addressed the graduates, highlighting their perseverance through unprecedented times. He noted that their experiences have not only prepared them academically but have also instilled a resilience that will serve them in their professional endeavors.
As these new engineers enter the workforce, they are expected to play a crucial role in Israel’s post-war recovery, particularly in the high-tech and defense industries. Their skills and determination are anticipated to drive innovation and contribute significantly to national resilience.
The graduation ceremony was a testament to the students’ dedication and the institution’s commitment to providing continuous support, ensuring that education persevered despite external challenges. This achievement underscores the vital connection between technological advancement and national strength.
