In a decisive move to strengthen protections against antisemitism, the Arkansas State Senate has approved Senate Bill 352 (SB352), legislation designed to prohibit antisemitic discrimination within the state’s public K-12 schools and higher education institutions.
The bill, introduced by lead sponsor Senator Dan Sullivan and co-sponsored by several other legislators, reflects a growing recognition of the need to address antisemitism in educational settings.
The approval of SB352 aligns with recent actions by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, which issued letters to 60 universities under investigation for antisemitic discrimination and harassment. These letters emphasize the enforcement of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish students on campuses nationwide.
The Arkansas State Senate’s passage of SB352 signifies a proactive approach to fostering inclusive and safe educational environments. As the bill progresses to the House for consideration, it underscores Arkansas’s commitment to combating antisemitism and promoting respect within its public education system.
