False Narratives Exposed: Canada’s True Alliance With Israel Defies Baseless Settler-Colonial Claims

A scathing rebuttal challenges the twisted narrative that Canada's democratic values are rooted in "settler-colonialism" and that they justify Israel's self-defense, not a supposed "slaughter" of Palestinians.

A recent article published on NB Media Coop alleges that “Canada’s settler-colonialism explains its support for Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians.” Such a claim is not only a gross misrepresentation of Canadian history and values—it is a baseless, inflammatory attempt to delegitimize Israel’s right to defend itself.

The assertion that Canada’s support for Israel is somehow rooted in a settler-colonial legacy is a cynical distortion designed to smear a thriving democracy. Canada’s history, like that of many nations, is complex, but its modern identity is built on the principles of pluralism, human rights, and democratic governance—not on outdated narratives of colonization. To equate these shared values with a supposed bias in favor of Israeli aggression is to ignore the critical distinction between self-defense and unwarranted violence.

The language employed by the NB Media Coop article—phrases like “slaughter of Palestinians”—is a deliberate mischaracterization that serves only to inflame passions and obscure the reality on the ground. Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, operates under constant threat from extremist groups such as Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. When Israeli forces take action, it is in response to rocket attacks and acts of terrorism aimed at its civilian population—not a systematic campaign of extermination. To label these defensive measures as “slaughter” is both misleading and irresponsible.

Canada’s longstanding support for Israel is rooted in shared values of freedom, equality, and justice. The partnership between the two nations is forged through a mutual commitment to democracy and the rule of law, not through any vestige of colonial ideology. By falsely attributing Canada’s support to a supposed settler-colonial mindset, detractors seek to undermine a relationship that has been built on decades of diplomatic, cultural, and economic cooperation.

The NB Media Coop article’s claim is emblematic of a broader trend among extremist voices who use distorted historical narratives to push a politicized agenda. Such rhetoric does nothing but sow division and fuel antisemitic sentiments. It is a transparent attempt to deflect from the real challenges faced by Israel and its allies in combating terrorism and promoting peace in a volatile region.

In rejecting these unfounded allegations, it is essential to recognize that critical discourse should be based on facts, not on ideological distortions. Canada’s support for Israel is a reflection of shared democratic principles, not a product of a misguided colonial past. As both nations continue to stand together against the forces of terror and hatred, it is imperative that we reject attempts to rewrite history with inflammatory language and instead focus on fostering dialogue based on truth and mutual respect.

The time has come to call out and discredit these baseless claims—because democracy, justice, and the truth must prevail over the lies that seek to undermine them.
