Winnipeg’s Jewish Community Under Siege: CPAM’s Intimidation Tactics Escalate

Pro-Palestinian Group Targets Jewish Community Centre During Children's Pickup Hours, Prompting Outrage and Calls for Action

Stop war criminals from speaking in winnipeg

In Winnipeg, pro-Palestinian groups are intensifying their efforts to silence pro-Israel voices through cancel culture tactics, culminating in actions that threaten the safety and cohesion of the Jewish community. The Canadian Palestinian Association of Manitoba (CPAM) has launched a Change.org petition titled “Stop War Criminals from Speaking in Winnipeg, MB, Canada!” aimed at canceling the “Triggered: From Combat to Campus” tour organized by Students Supporting Israel (SSI). The petition, which has garnered 764 signatures, falsely accuses the event’s speakers of participating in a so-called Palestinian genocide—allegations that are not only baseless but steeped in antisemitism.

Triggered

The “Triggered” tour is designed to provide an honest discussion about the realities of combat and the challenges faced by Israel, countering the oversimplified and incendiary narratives propagated by its detractors. Rather than celebrating violence, the tour serves as an essential counterbalance to attempts to silence voices that challenge the one-sided portrayal of the conflict.

Cpam emergency protest poster

In a further escalation, CPAM has called for an “emergency” protest outside Winnipeg’s Jewish Community Centre (JCC) during peak hours when families are retrieving their children from daycare. This calculated move not only disrupts the daily lives of innocent families but also instills fear in a place meant to be a sanctuary for cultural and educational activities. Parents have taken to social media to express their frustration, concern, and dismay that such a protest is permitted mere meters from the JCC’s doors. In response, members of Winnipeg’s Israeli community are mobilizing to provide support and counteract the spread of hate, underscoring the resilience and solidarity within the community.

Message to parents

It is imperative that city officials and law enforcement agencies take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of all community members. While the right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of democratic society, it must not infringe upon the well-being of others. Targeting a community center, especially during times when children are present, crosses a line that must not be tolerated.

Winnipeg has witnessed a troubling rise in antisemitic incidents, from vandalism to online hate campaigns. The community must remain vigilant and proactive in confronting these challenges, ensuring that such acts do not go unchallenged. The safety and security of all community members, especially children, should be paramount. It is the collective responsibility of society to stand against intimidation tactics and ensure that places like the JCC remain safe havens for all who seek their services.
