Buffalo And Toronto Jewish Communities Propose ‘Unity Walk’ Across Rainbow Bridge

Cross-Border Initiative Aims to Unite Communities Against Rising Antisemitism

In response to escalating antisemitism and the ongoing hostage crisis, members of Buffalo’s Jewish community have proposed a collaborative “Unity Walk” with Toronto’s Jewish community. This initiative aims to demonstrate solidarity and raise awareness by organizing a joint walk across the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls later this spring.

Buffalo’s Jewish population, numbering approximately 8,000 individuals, has been significantly impacted by a surge in antisemitic incidents. One community member shared the distressing experience of withdrawing their child from public school due to antisemitic harassment. To counteract this hostility, a small group has been conducting weekly Sunday walks, with participation ranging from five to ten individuals, to show support for hostages. However, safety concerns have limited these demonstrations to specific areas.

“We are a TINY Jewish minority here (only about 8,000 of us, many of whom are unaffiliated) and currently we are up against a HUGE wave of antisemitism.”

The proposed event, to be held later this spring, will see participants crossing the iconic Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls. Organizers believe that by combining forces, the two communities can amplify their voices, promote solidarity, and send a clear message that hate and discrimination will not be tolerated.

“The fight against antisemitism must go on. We are stronger together.”

This initiative reflects a broader pattern of Jewish communities worldwide coming together to support hostages and combat antisemitism. For instance, rallies have been held in various cities, including Washington, D.C., where participants called for the release of hostages and promoted peace in the region.

As planning for the Unity Walk progresses, organizers are reaching out to community members on both sides of the border to garner support and participation. They are also coordinating with local authorities to ensure the event’s safety and compliance with regulations.

The Unity Walk represents a significant step toward fostering cross-border unity and demonstrating an unwavering commitment to combating antisemitism and supporting those affected by the hostage crisis.
