In a recent Passover greeting to Canada’s Jewish community, Liberal Leader and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney extended warm wishes and urged collective action against the rising tide of antisemitism. Speaking from a Seder dinner alongside Rabbi Mikelberg, Zachary, Debra, and Gary, Carney reflected on the sacred tradition of liberation and the importance of remembering the hostages still in captivity. He emphasized, “Tomorrow night, the Jewish community will celebrate the first night of Passover” and called for unyielding efforts to confront and denounce antisemitism that threatens Jewish life and safety across Canada.
However, Carney’s message did not go unchallenged. International Human Rights Lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky sharply criticized the Prime Minister for what he described as a glaring contradiction. Ostrovsky asked, “Seriously? You wish happy Passover and call for the need to confront and denounce the rising tide of antisemitism … day after you accuse Israel of genocide and take pride in your government adopting an arms embargo against the Jewish state?” His cutting remark points to earlier instances where Carney contributed to narratives deeply troubling to pro-Israel advocates.
The controversy quickly snowballed on social media. Honest Reporting Canada expressed cautious gratitude for Carney’s acknowledgment of the plight of the 59 hostages and his call for unity, but pressed him further by asking, “What will you do to combat the rampant Jew-hatred in our midst?” The query reflects the growing frustration among those who believe that warm wishes alone do not counter the severe challenges facing the Jewish community in Canada today.
Adding further fuel to the debate, Vivian Bercovici, Founder of the State of TLV, former Ambassador to Israel, and columnist at the National Post, lashed out in a forceful response. Bercovici challenged Carney to address his record, stating, “Perhaps you might respond to PM Netanyahu’s smackdown of you yesterday regarding your hateful comment regarding Israel and the ‘g’ word. And while you’re at it explain your position to Canadians Jewish and not. Hiding and pretending you’re dealing with tariffs will not solve your problem. We can do without your performative pre-Passover BS.” Her remarks underscore the intense demand for consistency and genuine support for Israel from Canadian leadership.
For pro-Israel and Zionist supporters, Carney’s celebratory words ring hollow against the backdrop of policies and comments that are seen as undermining Israel and failing to counter antisemitism. As Passover approaches, a time that demands reflection on themes of freedom, liberation, and resolute defense of Jewish life, the call is loud and clear: leaders must stand firmly for Israel and ensure that words match actions.
In this critical moment, Canadians must hold their leaders accountable for their words and actions. The Jewish community demands that Prime Minister Carney provide a clear and consistent record in support of Israel and the fight against antisemitism. Our future depends on leaders who match their rhetoric with decisive and meaningful action.

I don’t trust this snake for one moment. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth. He trashes Israel, and then has the gall to attend a Jewish home. The Fox in the hen house!
Answer: Because he’s a Liberal.
You have to be crazy to vote Liberal at this point in time. My guess is that there’s lots of boomers out there where you used to voting liberal and will continue to do so. The end of Canada is near.
Good for him. It’s 100% a genocide and theft of land. This is what Israel will be known for in perpetuity. “g” word — you can’t even call the mass slaughter of families by its proper name. Diabolical.
Carney can’t help himself as he was born with DNA Hatred of Jews! That can never be cured!
