Toronto’s vibrant Jewish culinary scene will be on full display this Jewish Heritage Month as B’nai Brith Canada presents “A Taste of Jewish Toronto,” a special event celebrating the dishes, traditions, and personalities that make the city’s food culture unique. The evening, moderated by Avrum Rosensweig, takes place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 7:30 PM, with the location details provided to registered attendees. Tickets are $36 per person, with limited seating available.

The event brings together three pillars of Toronto’s Jewish food community:

  • Shlomo Assayag – The Kosher King:
A leading voice in kosher cuisine, Shlomo Assayag has built a loyal following through his reviews, product spotlights, and community engagement. Known for his energetic presence and advocacy for kosher food, The Kosher King has become a household name, recently recognized among the Top 35 Canadian Jewish Influencers in 2025.
  • Ruthie Ladovsky – United Bakers Dairy Restaurant:
United Bakers, founded in 1912, stands as a Toronto institution and a living link to the city’s Jewish immigrant roots. Ruthie Ladovsky, a third-generation owner, is renowned for her warmth, community service, and dedication to preserving the restaurant’s legacy. United Bakers remains a beloved gathering place, connecting generations over classic dairy dishes and stories that trace the journey of Jewish life in Toronto.
  • Judy Perly – Free Times Café:
Founder and owner of Free Times Café, Judy Perly has created a cultural landmark known for its legendary “Bella! Did Ya Eat?” Sunday brunch and live music. For decades, Free Times has been a haven for Jewish comfort food and a stage for local artists, reflecting the diversity and creativity of Toronto’s Jewish community.

Attendees can look forward to a lively discussion as these culinary leaders share their personal journeys, inspirations, and the ways their kitchens have become cornerstones of community life. The evening promises not only conversation but also a delicious sampling of Jewish Toronto’s signature flavors, with all food served under kosher supervision.

“A Taste of Jewish Toronto” is more than a food event; it’s a celebration of heritage, resilience, and the enduring bonds that food creates across generations.
