Canadian Indigenous Leaders Stand With Israel, Expose Hypocrisy In Western Gaza Policy

Historic statement denounces Canada’s double standards, demands justice for Hamas atrocities, and urges protection for Canadian Jews.

Winnipeg – In a watershed moment for Canadian public discourse, a coalition of respected Indigenous leaders has issued a powerful statement in the National Post, directly challenging the Canadian government’s approach to the Gaza conflict and standing firmly with Israel and the Jewish community.

Their message, signed by figures such as Hon. Harry S. LaForme, Dr. Sheree Trotter, Hon. Alfred Ngaro, Indy Harvey Yesno, Harvey Yesno, and Reggie David Neeposh, calls out the hypocrisy of Western governments, including Canada, France, and the UK, for rewarding Hamas with diplomatic pressure on Israel while ignoring the terror group’s atrocities.

The statement denounces the joint Western call for a ceasefire and increased aid to Gaza as a “reward” for Hamas’s October 7 massacre, which saw over 1,200 innocent civilians tortured and murdered and 250 others kidnapped. The Indigenous leaders point out the glaring double standard: the same Western powers that “bombed Raqqa and Mosul into rubble to eliminate ISIS” now turn their moral condemnation on Israel, shielding Hamas from the consequences of its barbaric actions.

Highlighting the legal right of Israel to restrict aid that is hijacked by Hamas and used to fund further terror, the statement notes, “Every truck that Hamas seizes is a reward for murder and brutality. Israel is right to restrict aid until the hostages are returned.” The leaders remind Canadians that, under the Fourth Geneva Convention, aid restrictions are lawful when supplies risk being diverted to enemy combatants, a reality that is repeatedly ignored in international rhetoric.

Crucially, the Indigenous signatories emphasize that the path to peace is clear: “The conflict in Gaza could end tomorrow if Hamas laid down its arms and released the hostages.” Instead, Hamas continues to hold 55 hostages in inhumane conditions, while the terror group exploits every ceasefire to regroup and plan new massacres.

The leaders warn, “Unless Hamas is defeated, it will always rise up to pillage, violate, and mutilate. Remember October 7. If Western leaders do not stand with Israel now, the hostages will die, and the war will go on.”

The statement also draws attention to the chilling rise in antisemitism in Canada, noting that Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs has upgraded its travel alert for Canada due to mounting threats against Jews and Israelis.

“For the first time, Jews have had to conceal symbols of Jewish/Israeli identity. Leaders of nations should be mindful of the chilling effect that such rhetoric and actions have on the safety and well-being of Jewish citizens.”

The Indigenous leaders’ message stands in stark contrast to the prevailing narrative among some Canadian political and civil society groups, who have called for sanctions on Israel and an end to all military operations in Gaza. Instead, these leaders demand that Canada unequivocally support Israel’s right to self-defense, insist on the immediate release of all hostages, and increase efforts to protect the Jewish people of Canada.

Their statement is a clarion call for moral clarity and solidarity with Israel and the Jewish community in a time of rising hatred and global uncertainty. It is a reminder that the fight against terror and antisemitism is not just Israel’s struggle, but a test of the values and resolve of all free societies.
