JERUSALEM โ Since the Hamas terror attack on Octoberโฏ7,โฏ2023, Israel has faced an onslaught of over 28,000 rockets and missiles launched by Iran and its proxies, according to Israel Defense Forces and Middle East analysts.
The breakdown includes approximately 10,000 from Hamas in Gaza, 17,200 from Hezbollah in Lebanon, 565 from Iran directly, 45 from Syria, and 55 from the Yemen-based Houthis.
The unprecedented barrage marks Israelโs most sustained multi-front missile campaign in decades.
Hezbollah intensified rocket fire in northern Israel. Between October 2023 and July 2024, IDF data show over 9,000 projectiles were launched from Lebanon. The groupโs actions have forced evacuations of tens of thousands and caused repeated alerts.
Hamas has continued firing from Gaza, with 13,200 rockets crossing into Israelโs territory, posing constant threats to civilians.
Iranโs direct involvement was highlighted in three major barrages. In April 2024, Tehran launched over 300 missiles and drones, including ballistic and cruise missiles, in its first direct strike on Israel. In October 2024, Iran followed with an estimated 200 ballistic missiles. During the 12-day Israel-Iran war in June 2025, Iran launched at least 165 additional projectiles. The total number of direct Iranian strikes now stands at approximately 665.
Yemenโs Houthi rebels and Syria-affiliated forces have added to the threat. Houthis launched at least 55 missiles at Israel, and Syria-based launches account for another 45 projectiles.
Israeli defence systems, particularly Iron Dome, have intercepted thousands of these missiles. The relentless barrages, however, continue to cause trauma, disruption, and occasional casualties in civilian areas.
โWould any other country accept this reality?โ asked a senior Israeli official, highlighting the extraordinary pressures under which Israel operates daily.
This sustained missile campaign has prompted Israel to bolster air defences and coordinate with U.S. and European allies to counter the escalating regional threats.
The volume and persistence of the attacks underscore the existential challenge Israel faces, validating its aggressive security posture and reinforcing international backing for its right to self-defence.
