UPDATE: Teen Charged In Swarming Attack At London Park Following Alleged Antisemitic Incident

16-year-old faces assault and disguise charges after alleged swarming attack on Jewish youth

LONDON, Ont. — A 16-year-old boy has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and disguise with intent after a group allegedly swarmed and assaulted a 17‑year‑old Jewish youth in a north London park late Friday, London Police confirmed on June 30.

The incident, which left the teenager with a concussion and broken nose, is being probed as potentially motivated by antisemitism. The victim’s family and Jewish community leaders have called for swift and transparent justice.

Police say the assault occurred around midnight in a Forest Hill-area park. Several suspects reportedly formed a “swarming” group that surrounded and attacked the youth before fleeing when officers arrived.

London Police have not reached a conclusion on motive but confirm the hate crimes unit is involved. “We are considering all available evidence, including statements and video,” said a spokesperson.

Jewish advocacy groups praised the charges but urged continued diligence. An anonymous community leader said, “Even one incident like this shakes our sense of security. Charging suspects is a first step. We need follow-through.” Another added, “Our teens should not fear for their safety when going for a walk.”

The charges carry potential penalties up to five years for assault causing bodily harm and two years for disguise with intent. Bail conditions have not been released.

This comes as the Jewish community in London, already on edge following other hate incidents, intensifies calls for prevention measures. Local leaders say educational outreach and increased patrols near Jewish institutions may help deter future violence.

The Crown will review the police brief and determine appropriate proceedings. Police are also asking anyone with video footage or information to come forward.
