Gazan Canadians To Launch Encampments Demanding Immigration Action From Ottawa

Group aligned with anti-Israel rhetoric plans Parliament Hill protest starting July 15, pressing Canada to fast-track Palestinian immigration

OTTAWA — A group calling itself “Gazan Canadians” plans to launch coordinated encampments across Canada, including on Parliament Hill, starting July 15, demanding that the federal government fast-track the entry of Palestinians from Gaza. The group says it will remain in place indefinitely “until Canada reunites our families.”

The encampment strategy closely mirrors tactics employed by recent pro-Palestinian campus protests and anti-Israel occupations of public spaces. According to organizers, tents will be set up outside federal Immigration offices and in front of Parliament as a means of pressuring Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

While the group frames its demand as a humanitarian call for family reunification, pro-Israel observers warn the campaign reflects a broader pattern of politicized activism that often targets the Jewish state.

“Canadians have every right to advocate for immigration support,” said a spokesperson for a Jewish community group. “But when demonstrations adopt the language, symbolism, or tactics of anti-Israel movements, it threatens to import the conflict into Canada and further marginalize Canadian Jews.”

Since October 2023, Canada has implemented special immigration measures for Gaza, including temporary residence pathways, financial assistance, and interim health benefits. However, immigration officials say intake is subject to security screenings and resource limits.

The federal government has committed to bringing over 1,000 Gazans through a temporary public policy. Yet activists claim the pace is too slow, and many blame Israel for the humanitarian crisis. This messaging has raised alarm among Jewish organizations, who say such framing distorts the reality of Hamas’s terrorism and Israel’s right to defend itself.

Canada’s Immigration Minister has acknowledged delays but says Canada is “doing what it can” in a complex and dangerous region. She added that Canada will “not compromise on security screenings.”

The upcoming encampment is the latest in a series of demonstrations across Canada that blur the line between humanitarian advocacy and anti-Israel agitation. Jewish Canadians have faced increased harassment and antisemitic incidents at similar protests since October 7, when Hamas launched its mass terror assault on Israel, killing 1,200 people and abducting over 250.

“This encampment is not just about immigration,” said a Montreal-based pro-Israel advocate. “It is part of a coordinated narrative that demonizes Israel, exploits Canadian openness, and ignores the role of Hamas in perpetuating Gaza’s suffering.”

The “Gazan Canadians” group has not condemned Hamas, nor has it acknowledged the Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. Critics say this omission reveals the political slant behind their campaign.

Jewish advocacy groups are monitoring the situation closely and have called on Parliament Hill authorities to ensure that any demonstrations do not promote antisemitism, intimidate Jewish Canadians, or glorify terrorist entities.

  1. “Israelis have every right to defend themselves” said a spokesperson for a Muslim community group. “But when military and enforced deprivation activities adopt the language, symbolism, and tactics defined under conventions against genocide, it threatens to export the conflict everywhere in the world there are people who actively oppose genocide, including to places like Canada where the establishment is complicit in the genocide. This contributes to the rise of antisemitism as Israel drapes itself in the name of the Jewish people, but larger than that, it is in fact a genocide actively being perpetrated now, and anyone who vowed to stop genocide from ever happening again, is now choosing whether they honour that vow or whether their words are worthless.”
