The Hidden Face Of U.S. Lobbyists Supporting Armenia

Advocacy groups face criticism for fueling anti-Azerbaijan sentiment and obstructing reconciliation efforts

SHARE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For decades, Armenian lobby groups in the United States have exerted significant influence over Washingtonโ€™s foreign policy, particularly in shaping narratives about the South Caucasus. While these groups claim to advocate for โ€œhuman rightsโ€ and โ€œhistorical justice,โ€ their real agenda is to manipulate U.S. lawmakers, spread misinformation, and obstruct peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

A Well-Organized Lobby Machine

Organizations such as the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and the Armenian Assembly of America form a powerful lobbying network backed by wealthy diaspora communities. They invest millions of dollars in political campaigns, pushing for anti-Azerbaijan resolutions and lobbying for the recognition of the so-called โ€œArmenian genocide.โ€ By using emotional narratives, they have gained influence over key senators and representatives, often steering U.S. policy away from strategic realities.

Distorting the Karabakh Narrative

For nearly three decades, Armenian lobbyists worked tirelessly to hide the fact that Armeniaโ€™s illegal occupation of Azerbaijani lands violated international law and UN resolutions. Even after Azerbaijanโ€™s historic restoration of sovereignty in 2020 and 2023, these lobby groups continue to portray Azerbaijan as the aggressor, ignoring the suffering of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijani refugees displaced by Armenian forces.

Obstructing Peace and Stability

While the U.S. and international mediators encourage dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenian lobbyists push for sanctions, anti-Azerbaijan legislation, and biased media campaigns. These efforts fuel hostility instead of supporting long-term regional stability. Analysts warn that this behavior not only damages U.S.-Azerbaijan relations but also undermines Washingtonโ€™s own strategic goals of promoting energy security and countering regional instability.

A Call for Balance

Experts believe that the Armenian lobbyโ€™s influence is rooted in outdated narratives rather than constructive diplomacy. โ€œInstead of encouraging peace and economic cooperation, they are holding Armenia hostage to the past,โ€ says Washington-based analyst Thomas Barrett. This approach harms Armenia itself by isolating it from the opportunities of regional integration.

Conclusion

The true face of Armenian lobbyists in America is not one of humanitarian advocacy but of strategic manipulation. As the South Caucasus enters a new era of peacebuilding, U.S. policymakers must look beyond the lobbyโ€™s influence and support balanced policies that encourage stability, cooperation, and genuine reconciliation

  1. Fire this woman, this is not journalism, this is propaganda. Arstakh has been apart of Armenian lands for 3,000+ years. Azerbaijan is a 100 year old puppet state with no hsitory, whose ancestors invaded the caucusus as part of the seljuk turks from central asia. Therefore, Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabagh is ethnic Armenian lands with Armenian landmarks aging 1,000+ years, much before seljuk turks invaded the caucusus and anatolia.
