TORONTO — Toronto police have launched an investigation into a suspected hate crime after eggs were thrown at the Yorkville Jewish Centre on August 31.
Surveillance footage released by the Centre shows a man casting eggs from a carton while shouting obscenities and threats at the building.
The centre responded defiantly, stating, “I know your goal was to intimidate us, to scare us away from coming to our Center. But let me promise you this: our Center is already flourishing and full of life… We will not be intimidated, we will not be scared, we will be stronger than ever.”
Toronto Police confirmed that their Hate Crime Unit has been notified and is actively involved in the investigation.
Toronto Councillor James Pasternak condemned the attack, sharing the footage on social media and emphasizing the seriousness of hate-motivated incidents against the Jewish community.
The attack follows an increase in antisemitic incidents across Toronto since the outbreak of conflict in October 2023.
Earlier in 2025, police charged a local man with multiple hate crimes connected to assaults and threats targeting the city’s Jewish residents.
Jewish community leaders continue to call for heightened security and strong legal actions against perpetrators to ensure the safety and dignity of all Jewish institutions in Toronto and beyond.
