Los Angeles โ€” An Israeli Consulate community safety symposium in Los Angeles was violently disrupted by antisemitic demonstrators who harassed attendees, attempted physical assault, and vandalized property, according to an official statement released by Consul General Israel Bachar.

The incident occurred at the Audrey Irmas Pavilion on the Wilshire Boulevard Temple Campus. The Consulate General of Israel co-hosted the gathering in the Pacific Southwest along with partner organizations, including the Jewish Federationโ€™s Community Security Initiative, the Korean American Federation, and FACE-LA. The purpose of the event was to strengthen public safety awareness and cooperation between Jewish and Korean-American communities in the region.

According to the Consulateโ€™s statement, demonstrators assembled outside the venue and blocked both entrances, preventing participants from the Jewish and Korean communities from entering the facility. The demonstrators shouted insults, including โ€œZionist scumโ€ and โ€œbaby killers,โ€ and used megaphones and smoke devices to intimidate attendees.

The Consulate reported that several individuals also registered for the event under pretenses and then entered the premises to harass participants from inside. The statement described multiple attempts at physical confrontation. In one case, a protestor allegedly charged at an Israeli diplomat, requiring security personnel to intervene to stop the assailant at close distance. The individual then smashed a glass object in front of attendees, causing significant distress.

Coordinated Harassment Described as Part of Wider Pattern

Consul General Bachar stated that these actions were not spontaneous or isolated. He described the incident as a โ€œcoordinated, concentrated effortโ€ carried out by organized groups seeking to intimidate the Jewish and pro-Israel community in Los Angeles.

โ€œThese were not individuals acting alone,โ€ the Consulateโ€™s statement said. โ€œThese were coordinated, concentrated efforts orchestrated by pro-Palestinian groups who seek to exploit and undermine American democratic values in order to intimidate and attack the Jewish and pro-Israel community.โ€

The statement noted that the event was designed to foster dialogue, knowledge sharing, and community action on neighborhood safety. Instead, the organizers said the gathering became the target of violent disruption aimed at derailing collaboration between Jewish and Korean-American community members.

The Consulate also referenced the murder of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C., six months earlier, as evidence of rising threats facing Jewish and Israeli diplomatic personnel in North America.

Attempted Assault and Property Damage

The Consulate said that the violent escalation inside the event represented an alarming breach of safety. The assailant who charged at the Israeli diplomat also vandalized property by smashing a glass item, which the Consulate described as an intentional act of intimidation.

The Consulate reported that security teams at the venue responded quickly, creating distance between the attacker and the targeted diplomat. The statement emphasized that the swift response prevented more severe harm.

Impact on Attendees

Witnesses told event organizers that the presence of smoke devices and megaphones caused many attendees, including seniors and Korean-American community members, to fear for their physical safety. The blockades at both entrances forced participants to navigate aggressive behavior to enter or exit the site.

Attendees who had registered legitimately said they were rattled by the presence of hostile individuals within the program who appeared to exploit open registration to gain internal access.

Organizers stated that the disruptions forced delays and interruptions to the program.

Consulate Expresses Gratitude to Community Partners

Consul General Bachar extended his appreciation to the Jewish, Korean-American, and wider Los Angeles communities for what he described as โ€œtheir strong stand against these horrifying antisemitic crimes.โ€

โ€œWe cannot and will not be intimidated by those who seek to destroy the one and only Jewish state and the Jewish people,โ€ the statement said. โ€œWe remain unwavering in our dedication to promoting and strengthening community relationships across Los Angeles and the Pacific Southwest region.โ€

The Consulate reaffirmed its commitment to public safety collaboration, particularly at a time of heightened threats facing Jewish institutions and diaspora communities across North America.

Context of Rising Antisemitism

The incident comes amid a documented rise in antisemitic incidents across the United States. National Jewish security organizations have reported increases in harassment, vandalism, and violence targeting Jewish institutions, communal events, and Israeli-related programs.

Local security agencies in Los Angeles have issued multiple warnings about organized groups attempting to infiltrate or disrupt Jewish and interfaith events. The Consulateโ€™s statement described the Los Angeles attack as part of a broader pattern in which anti-Israel groups attempt to target gatherings that foster intercommunal understanding.
