Brooke Goldstein Warns Radical Islamist Extremism Is A Shared Civilizational Threat

Appearing on The Dinesh Dโ€™Souza Podcast, The Lawfare Project founder says defending constitutional freedoms requires broad alliances beyond partisan politics.

NEW YORK, NY โ€” In a new episode of The Dinesh Dโ€™Souza Podcast, The Lawfare Project Founder and Executive Director Brooke Goldstein delivered a clear warning. The rise of radical Islamist extremism in Western societies is not a left or right issue. It is a shared civilizational challenge that requires collective resolve.

Speaking with author and commentator Dinesh Dโ€™Souza, Goldstein said the growing influence of Sharia-inspired radicalism poses a direct threat to constitutional freedoms in North America and Europe. She emphasized that ideological divisions must not prevent cooperation among those committed to defending democratic values.

โ€œThe goal is not pro-Israel advocacy,โ€ Goldstein said during the discussion. โ€œThe goal is to form alliances against radical Islam. Sharia law is simply not compatible with our constitutional rights or with Judeo-Christian values.โ€

Goldstein leads The Lawfare Project, a legal advocacy organization focused on protecting human rights and combating antisemitism through litigation, education, and research. The organization has been involved in high-profile legal efforts addressing extremist activity, terror financing, and ideological radicalization in Western institutions.

During the podcast, Goldstein and Dโ€™Souza discussed how radical Islamist movements increasingly seek legitimacy in democratic societies by reframing their objectives in the language of social justice and human rights. Goldstein said this tactic obscures the underlying ideology and makes it more difficult for governments and civil society to respond effectively.

According to Goldstein, the threat is no longer theoretical. She pointed to developments on university campuses, in public demonstrations, and within activist networks that openly reject liberal democratic norms. These movements, she said, frequently oppose equality before the law, freedom of expression, womenโ€™s rights, and religious liberty.

She also warned that foreign funding plays a role in amplifying these ideologies. While Goldstein did not name specific governments during the conversation, she said that transparency and enforcement of existing laws are critical to preventing extremist influence from taking root.

Dโ€™Souza, who has written extensively on ideology and culture, agreed that the issue cuts across traditional political lines. He said the defense of constitutional principles should unite people of different backgrounds who recognize the dangers posed by authoritarian belief systems.

Goldstein stressed that confronting radical Islamist extremism does not mean targeting Muslims as a group. Instead, she said it requires distinguishing between peaceful religious practice and ideological movements that seek to impose religious law on pluralistic societies.

โ€œThe defense of freedom depends on moral clarity,โ€ Goldstein said. โ€œIf we are unwilling to say that certain ideologies are incompatible with democratic life, we leave the door open for their expansion.โ€

The conversation comes amid heightened concern in Jewish communities worldwide over rising antisemitism since the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. Goldstein said extremist ideologies often intersect with antisemitism, using hostility toward Israel and Jews as a unifying narrative.

She argued that the situation underscores the need for cooperation among Jewish communities, Christians, secular liberals, and others who value democratic norms. In her view, the preservation of freedom requires alliances grounded in shared principles rather than partisan affiliation.

Goldstein also addressed the importance of legal tools in confronting extremism. She said courts, legislatures, and regulatory bodies already possess mechanisms to address radical activity but often lack the political will to use them.

The Lawfare Project, she noted, continues to pursue legal strategies aimed at protecting civil rights while exposing networks that promote violence or undermine democratic institutions.

As the discussion concluded, Goldstein urged listeners to recognize the urgency of the moment. She said the normalization of extremist rhetoric represents a warning sign that should not be ignored.

Now, she argued, is the time for communities of every background to stand together in defense of constitutional freedoms and liberal democracy.
