TORONTO — Police in Toronto are investigating a series of overnight shootings that targeted several locations connected to the Jewish community, including a synagogue, a restaurant, and a Jewish-affiliated business institute.
The sites struck by gunfire include Temple Emanu‑El Synagogue, Old Avenue Restaurant, and the York Entrepreneurship Development Institute, commonly known as YEDI.
All three locations are associated with members of the Jewish community.
Police confirmed that Temple Emanu-El synagogue in North York sustained damage after gunfire struck the building late Monday night. The incident occurred hours after congregants had gathered for Purim celebrations.
Authorities said bullet damage was discovered on the synagogue’s exterior, including broken glass and impact marks.
No injuries were reported.
Investigators are also examining gunfire damage at Old Avenue Restaurant, a Jewish-owned restaurant in Toronto, which was struck during the same overnight period.
A third location, the York Entrepreneurship Development Institute, a business education and startup incubator with strong ties to Jewish and Israeli entrepreneurs, was also hit by gunfire.
Toronto Police have not yet publicly confirmed whether the three incidents are connected, but investigators are examining the possibility of coordinated or related attacks.
Officials said the Toronto Police Hate Crime Unit is involved in the investigation.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The incidents come amid heightened concern about antisemitism targeting Jewish institutions across Canada.
Police agencies and Jewish community organizations have reported a significant increase in antisemitic incidents since the October 7 attacks carried out by the Gaza-based militant group Hamas against Israel.
Jewish community leaders say the shootings have raised serious alarm about the safety of Jewish institutions.
