WASHINGTON โ The Zionist Organization of America has voiced strong support for a United States naval blockade strategy targeting Iran, describing the approach as a critical step in preventing the regime from developing nuclear weapons and increasing pressure on its leadership.
In a statement, ZOA National President Morton โMortโ Klein praised former President Donald Trumpโs strategy, calling it a decisive measure with global implications.
โWe strongly support, praise and pray for President Trump and his brilliant naval blockade strategy against Iran,โ Klein said. โA strategy that is protecting the United States and the world from the Iranian regime from ever developing nuclear weapons.โ
Klein argued that the Iranian governmentโs repeated public rhetoric against the United States and Israel reflects genuine intent rather than symbolic language.
โMake no mistake, when this regime holds weekly rallies chanting โDeath to Americaโ and โDeath to Israelโ and calling America and Israel the โGreat and Little Satans,โ this is not mere rhetoric,โ he said. โIt is intent and an intent they will act upon the moment they acquire the capability.โ
Economic Pressure and Strategic Impact
According to the ZOA, a sustained naval blockade could significantly disrupt Iranโs economy by limiting trade and restricting oil exports, which remain a primary source of revenue for the regime.
Klein said the economic impact of such measures could increase internal pressure within Iran.
โThis sustained economic pressure, combined with the constant blows delivered by Israel and the United States against the regimeโs apparatus of subjugation and terror, will increase the likelihood that the courageous people of Iran will once again rise up,โ he said.
He added that continued international pressure could create conditions for political change within the country.
โThis time, with Godโs help and through continued pressure and military action by the United States and Israel, the Iranian people can finally overthrow this corrupt, dangerous regime,โ Klein said.
Background on Morton Klein and ZOA
Klein has served as national president of the Zionist Organization of America since 1993. The organization, founded in 1897, is the oldest pro-Israel advocacy group in the United States.
He is also a member of the National Council of AIPAC and is widely regarded as a longstanding figure in American Jewish advocacy circles. Klein was born in a displaced persons camp in Germany to Holocaust survivors.
In 2024, the FBI warned Klein about what were described as credible threats against his life linked to Iran, according to publicly reported information.
The ZOA has historically supported strong U.S.-Israel relations and has advocated for policies aimed at countering Iranian influence in the Middle East.
Broader Policy Debate
The use of naval blockades as a tool of international pressure remains a subject of debate among policymakers and analysts. Supporters argue that such measures can constrain a countryโs economic and military capabilities, while critics often raise concerns about escalation and humanitarian impact.
The ZOAโs statement reflects a broader perspective within segments of the pro-Israel community that emphasizes maximum pressure strategies against Iran, particularly in light of its nuclear program and regional activities.
Klein said the stakes extend beyond the Middle East.
โThis strategy is protecting not only Israel but the United States, Europe, and the broader international community,โ he said.
Regional and Global Implications
Iranโs role in supporting armed groups across the region, including in areas such as Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, has been a central factor in ongoing tensions.
Analysts have noted that any escalation involving maritime restrictions could have significant implications for global energy markets and regional stability, particularly in strategic waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz.
The ZOA statement frames the blockade as part of a broader effort to counter what it describes as the regimeโs long-standing destabilizing activities.
The endorsement by the Zionist Organization of America highlights continued support among some advocacy groups for robust measures aimed at limiting Iranโs capabilities and influence.
As discussions continue in Washington and among international partners, the question of how best to address Iranโs nuclear ambitions and regional role remains a central issue in global security policy.
