NEW YORK, United States โ Americans For A Safe Israel has announced the launch of a new nationwide campus initiative designed to strengthen pro-Israel advocacy and support student leaders across American universities.
The program, called Students For A Safe Israel, seeks to recruit and train student representatives who identify as strongly supportive of Israelโs security and territorial integrity.
According to AFSI, the initiative comes at a time of increasing concern over antisemitism, anti-Israel activism, and campus tensions across North America.
The organization said the program will provide educational resources, activist training, and strategic guidance intended to help students counter misinformation and promote a stronger pro-Israel presence at colleges and universities.
Focus On Campus Advocacy
AFSI officials said the program is intended to prepare student leaders before the upcoming academic year begins.
โWe are launching this effort now to ensure student activists are prepared before they step back onto campus this fall,โ said Moshe Phillips, chairman of AFSI.
โAFSI has always supported students, but SFSI formalizes our commitment,โ Phillips said. โWe are building a network for leaders who are ready to stand firm in their identity and their support for a secure Israel.โ
The organization said the program will focus particularly on students who support continued Jewish presence and security in Judea and Samaria.
Rising Concern Over Campus Climate
The launch comes amid heightened debate surrounding Israel-related activism on university campuses in the United States and Canada.
In recent years, Jewish student organizations and pro-Israel groups have reported growing concerns over antisemitic incidents, protests, harassment allegations, and disputes surrounding Israel-related programming.
Supporters of pro-Palestinian activism, meanwhile, have argued that criticism of Israeli government policy should be protected as political expression.
Universities across North America have faced increasing pressure to balance free expression with campus safety and concerns raised by Jewish students and faculty.
Against that backdrop, organizations across the political spectrum have expanded student-focused programming aimed at influencing campus discourse.
AFSIโs Position
Founded in 1970, Americans For A Safe Israel describes itself as one of the oldest pro-Israel advocacy organizations in the United States.
The group has historically emphasized Israeli security issues, support for Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, and opposition to policies viewed as weakening Israelโs strategic position.
AFSI states that it is not affiliated with any political party in either the United States or Israel.
The organization said Students For A Safe Israel is specifically designed for students seeking what it called an โunapologetically pro-Israelโ platform.
Interested applicants are being encouraged to apply directly through the organization.
Training And Strategic Guidance
According to AFSI, participating students will receive activist training and strategic guidance intended to help them navigate campus debates and advocacy efforts.
The organization says the initiative will also help connect students with broader pro-Israel networks, educational materials, and leadership opportunities.
While details regarding specific campus chapters and program structures have not yet been fully released, organizers said the focus will be on building a national network of student representatives.
Broader Debate Over Israel On Campus
The creation of SFSI reflects a wider shift in how advocacy organizations are approaching university campuses.
Many Jewish and pro-Israel organizations now view campuses as a major battleground in shaping future public opinion regarding Israel, Zionism, and Middle East policy.
At the same time, critics of such initiatives argue that highly polarized political activism can further intensify tensions within academic environments.
The debate has become particularly pronounced following the October 7 attacks and the subsequent war involving Israel and Hamas, which triggered large demonstrations, encampments, and political disputes at universities worldwide.
Looking Ahead
AFSI officials say the immediate goal is to recruit students before the start of the fall semester and establish a visible national presence on campuses.
Whether the initiative succeeds in building broad student engagement remains to be seen, but its launch highlights the growing importance organizations are placing on campus advocacy and political organizing.
For supporters, the initiative represents an effort to ensure that Jewish and pro-Israel students feel supported and prepared to respond to increasingly contentious debates surrounding Israel and antisemitism.
As universities continue grappling with questions surrounding activism, speech, identity, and campus safety, groups on all sides of the debate are expected to intensify efforts to shape the next generation of political and communal leadership.
