TORONTO, ONT. — A Children’s Walk for Gaza initially promoted in Toronto has emerged as part of a substantially broader series of family-oriented fundraising events being advertised across Ontario through October.
The official event calendar maintained by Forgotten Women lists Children’s Walk for Gaza events in numerous Ontario municipalities, including Mississauga, Hamilton, Brampton, Scarborough, Vaughan, London, Brantford, Milton, Ajax, East York, Thorold, Cambridge, Waterloo and Puslinch.
Events were listed in Mississauga and Hamilton for Saturday, Sept. 5, followed by additional walks in Brampton and Mississauga on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Further events are advertised over the coming weeks, extending the initiative well beyond the Greater Toronto Area and into southwestern Ontario.
Organizers describe the walks as family-oriented humanitarian fundraising events intended to support people in Gaza.
The expanding series represents a broader footprint than was apparent from earlier promotion of a Children’s Walk for Gaza at Downsview Park in Toronto.
That Downsview event is no longer visible on the organization’s current event calendar. No direct confirmation has been located establishing whether the event was formally cancelled, relocated, or incorporated into another event.
Events Advertised Across Ontario
The Children’s Walk for Gaza campaign appears designed to allow supporters in individual communities to participate in locally organized walks rather than rely on a single large event.
The geographic spread is significant.
In addition to events in major Greater Toronto Area municipalities such as Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough and Vaughan, the calendar advertises walks in London, Brantford, Milton, Ajax, East York, Thorold, Cambridge, Waterloo and Puslinch.
The listings indicate the campaign is expected to continue through October.
Forgotten Women presents itself as a humanitarian organization focused on assisting women and children affected by poverty, conflict and humanitarian emergencies.
Its promotion of the Gaza walks emphasizes humanitarian fundraising and participation by families and children.
The events are part of the continuing wave of public fundraising, demonstrations, marches and community activities related to the Gaza war that have taken place across Canada since the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023 terrorist attack on Israel and the subsequent war.
Original Downsview Event No Longer Listed
Earlier attention had focused on a Children’s Walk for Gaza associated with Downsview Park in Toronto.
That event does not appear on Forgotten Women’s current calendar.
The absence of the listing leaves its status unclear.
No statement has been located from Forgotten Women confirming that the Downsview event was cancelled, and no evidence has been found establishing that it was formally relocated.
The subsequent appearance of multiple events across Ontario, however, demonstrates that the Children’s Walk for Gaza concept was not limited to the original Toronto-area event.
Instead, the organization is advertising a multi-city series extending over several weeks.
Gaza Advocacy Continues Across Canada
The Ontario walks come amid continuing Gaza-related political and humanitarian activity across Canada.
Public demonstrations, campus encampments, fundraising initiatives and community events have become a persistent feature of the Canadian political landscape since the war began.
Jewish organizations have repeatedly drawn distinctions between legitimate advocacy for Palestinian civilians and rhetoric or conduct that targets Jews, glorifies terrorism or calls for violence.
Those distinctions remain relevant as organizations, governments and law enforcement agencies respond to a wide range of Gaza-related events.
For the Children’s Walk for Gaza series, the currently verified development is the scale of the campaign itself.
What initially appeared to be a single event at Toronto’s Downsview Park is now being promoted as a series of community walks across Ontario, with events advertised through October.
The status of the originally advertised Downsview Park event also remains unresolved.
